Akbarpur is a small city located in Ambedkar Nagar district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is part of the Faizabad division. It is situated on the bank of river Tamsa (also known as Tons). According to the Ramayana, Akbarpur is the place where King Dasharatha shot Shravan Kumar. River Tamsa divided the city into two important parts - Akbarpur and Shahzadpur. River Saryu is the main river here. It is located at the northern boundary of the district.
Akbarpur is the birth place of Ram Manohar Lohia. He was a famous Indian freedom fighter and a socialist political leader.
Ashrafpur Kichhauchha is a sacred place located about 25 km away from Akbarpur. Kichhauchha Shareef is the famous pilgrimage center. It is well known as the monument of famous Sufi Saint ‘Saiyad Makhdhum Shah Jahangir Asharfi’. He was also known as Makdhum Shah Baba. He was born in Semnan, Iran and made a notable contribution to the development of the Chishti lineage in particular.
