Bhilwara is a city in the Mewar region of Rajasthan, India. Bhilwara is well-known as "The City of Textiles & Looms".
As per a tale, the city of Bhilwara had a mint that minted coins called “Bhiladi”. This is apparently the origin of the district’s name. According to the folk mythology, when Arjuna was going to Dwarka with Gopis during the Mahabharata period, he passed through Bhilwara district.
The city falls between the districts of Ajmer, in the north and Chittorgarh and Udaipur in the south. Major rivers flowing through the region are Banas, Bedach, Kothari, Khari, Mansi, Menali, Chandrabhaga and Nagdi.
The most important industry is textiles, with more than 850 manufacturing units in the city. The chief textile product is synthetic fabric used in trousers. Bhilwara is the only city in the country producing insulation bricks. Bhilwara has also been recognized as a major producer of Iron Ore.
