Jammu is an administrative division of Jammu & Kashmir that consists of several districts like Udhampur, Kathua, Doda, Jammu, Reasi, Poonch, Samba, Ramban, and Rajouri. Most of the land in the city is hilly with vast mountain ranges. Jammu also includes the Pir Panjal range. This range separates Kashmir Valley and Jammu city. The city is also known as Jammu-Tawi.
Jammu was founded in 14th century BC by Raja Jambulochan. Jambulochan was the brother of Raja Bahulochan who built Fort Bahu on the banks of River Tawi. He named it as Jambupora. Later the city name was changed to Jambu-Nagar, which then changed to Jammu. Historically, Jammu has been the capital of the state of Jammu & Kashmir from 1846 to 1952.
