Mathura has an ancient history and is also the homeland and birthplace of Krishna. According to the Archaeological Survey of India, the city is mentioned in the oldest Indian epic, the Ramayana.
The geographic coordinates of Mathura is 27.4924° north and 77.6737° east. It is located approximately 50 kilometers north of Agra, and 145 kilometers (90 mi) southeast of Delhi, 11 kilometers from Vrindavan and 22 kilometers from Govardhan.
The climate of Mathura is tropical extreme. In summer, temperature goes beyond 44 °C. Average rainfall is 593 mm, received mostly during between July to September.
